You don’t need to purchase cleaning chemicals at the store. You can create your own DIY cleaning solutions and homemade deodorizers with lemons. That’s right. Lemons aren’t just for lemonade. You can clean and freshen your home with them too!

7 WAYS TO CLEAN & DEODORIZE WITH LEMONS

Here are seven DIY cleaning ideas with lemons:

#1: DEODORIZE YOUR REFRIGERATOR

This one is easy. You can deodorize your refrigerator using just one lemon. All you need is a saucer dish or small bowl and one lemon. You can squeeze some lemon juice onto a cotton ball and place the cotton ball in the bowl or just squeeze the lemon juice right into the bowl. You can also cut a lemon in half and place one half into the bowl.

This will create a fresh lemon scent in your refrigerator. Just be sure to replace the old lemon juice once or twice each week.

#2: CLEAN YOUR MICROWAVE

Cut a lemon in half and squeeze the juice from each half into a soup bowl. Then fill the bowl halfway with hot water and drop the two halves of the lemon into the bowl. Place the bowl in the microwave and set the microwave to its highest heat setting and let it run for 3-5 minutes. Let the microwave cool down for 5 minutes and then remove the bowl. This will loosen all of the grime and old food stains from the interior of the microwave and allow you to quickly clean the microwave.

#3: CHEESE GRATER

Sometimes it seems impossible to remove all of the cheese from a cheese grater but a lemon can do the job. Cut a lemon in half and then grate one of the lemon halves. Do this on both sides of the grater. This will loosen and remove most of the cheese. Then run the cheese grater under hot water to remove the remaining pieces of cheese.

#4: DEODORIZE CARPET

There are several smells that come from carpet over time. Especially in homes with pets. You can conceal several carpet odors with your own lemon spray. Cut a lemon in half and then squeeze the juice from both halves into a spray bottle. Then fill the rest of the bottle with warm water and shake the bottle. This creates a lemon deodorizer to spritz on the surface of the carpet.

However, the deodorizer will not remove the source of the odors and for that you will need to hire a carpet cleaning service. We recommend Chem-Dry of Snowy Range for carpet cleaning to eliminate the cause of the odor and renew the color of your carpet.

#5: GLASS & MIRROR CLEANER

Squeeze three tablespoons of lemon juice into a spray bottle and then mix in a cup of water. Then shake the contents of the bottle. Then spray the contents onto the mirror or glass window or cabinets and wipe down the glass with a microfiber towel.

#6. TOILET BOWL CLEANER

Squeeze half of a lemon around the interior of the toilet bowl and then pour coarse salt around the interior too. Then use your toilet bowl brush and scrub the salt and the lemon juice into the bowl to remove toilet rings and other stains. You can then flush the toilet and the lemon juice, salt and bacteria will be gone.

#7: SOAP SCUM

You can remove soap scum from showers and bathtubs with lemon juice. All you need to do is spray the lemon juice directly on the soap scum and wipe it away. You can also squeeze the lemon juice right onto a sponge and then use the sponge to wipe off the soap scum from the shower.
